Former Malawi Ambassador to Japan Dr. John James Chikago has been vaccinated against COVID-19, the deadly pandemic that has claimed over 1000 lives across the country.

Chikago confirmed of the development in a statement posted on his official facebook page seen by this publication.

The former diplomat has since urged Malawians to ignore social media claims about the vaccine.

“Good evening dear friends. In the morning, seized the privilege offered by govt, to get vaccinated. I am aware of some of the arguments against the vaccination but to be honest, receiving the vaccination is the safest strategy for happy living. After the vaccination, I feel confident of my life.

“I therefore appeal to all my friends and fellow citizens to visit any hospital nearest where they live to get a jab. It is not painful. Let us be progressive by vaccinating against covid 19,” wrote Chikago.

The government of Malawi on Monday rolled out the third phase which is targeting Civil Servants, social workers and the elderly.

So far over 15,000 Malawians have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
