The Legal Aid Bureau (LAB) has today donated a toll-free handset to Kanengo Police Station in the capital Lilongwe.

Writing on the official Facebook page of the bureau, the Director and Deputy Director of LAB handed the phone to the police station.

According to the statement, the phone is aimed at helping newly suspects in police custody to access the Legal Aid within 48 hours.

“The Bureau plans to have this service in at least one police station in all district of this country,” said the statement.

The statement added; “Currently, the service is being rolled out for pilot and will be in only 3 police stations, Kanengo in Lilongwe, Mzuzu Police Station in Mzuzu and Ndirande Police Station in Blantyre.”
