A MAN from Endola in the Ohangwena region has been charged with culpable homicide after accidentally driving over his grandchild.
According to Ohangwena crime investigations coordinator Zachariah Amakali the incident took place at the man’s home over the weekend.
“What we know is that the man was reversing out of his homestead and didn’t realise his one-year-old grandchild was behind the vehicle, nor did he check. It was only afterwards when members of his household started screaming that he realised what happened,” Amakali says.
The child was rushed to the Oshakati State Hospital and was pronounced dead a few hours later, he says.
The man has not been arrested, but the case will be forwarded to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
In another incident a 31-year-old was arrested in connection with forgery at Eenhana after he allegedly stole his friend’s senior secondary (Grade 10) certificate, altered it and allegedly added his own details to it.
The suspect reportedly wanted to use the certificate to apply for work.
The man is set to appear in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
