Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati has on Friday launched a book with a word of encouragement to women to be fierce and break barriers in the male-dominated society.

The title of the book is “She Participates.”

Speaking during the launch at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Kaliati stressed the need for women to be active and claim a seat on the decision-making table.

The minister who is also a former teacher says the inspiration to write “She Participates” was drawn after noting what women go through to make it in a male-dominated society.

“This is a global book that we dedicate to women that when we give them space to occupy they do a lot especially in achieving the social-economic growth of the country,” said Kaliati.

The spouse to the Vice President Mary Chilima concurred with Kaliati by stressing the need to break barriers that demotivate women,

“There are a number of issues need to be addressed ranging from lobbying the government into investing in women’s capital to digital literacy for women so that they can fully participate,” said Chilima.

Among the notable figures who patronized at the occasion was the speaker of parliament Catherine Gotani Hara, Minister of Forestry Nancy Tembo, UN resident Coordinator Maria Jose Torres, and other politicians.
