United Transformation Movement (UTM) candidate Felix Katwaff Kaira has won the parliamentary seat for Karonga North West Constituency, according to unofficial results.

Kaira has amassed 9, 537 votes out of 25, 699 votes that were cast.

His closest contender, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate Daniel Chitonya got 9,207 votes.

Trustings Waluza Kamwambi, brother to immediate former Member of Parliament for the area, representing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) polled 3,992 votes, while Fwasani Silungwe for Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) attracted 2,390 voters. Bone Harry Mwenendeka, representing the United Democratic Front (UDF) got 91 votes, and the independent candidates, Anderson Peace Mwaipinga had 55, Dr Shawo Gabriel Mwakilama, 125 and Harry Hardson Mwanyembe 156 votes on their names.

Total vote cast was 25,689, with 136  null and void, bringing the  total valid votes to 25,553.

Total registered voters in Karonga North constituency were 53,000.
