Patricia Kaliati, Minster of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare has called on the Malawi Police to stop releasing on bail rape and defilement suspects.

According to Kaliati, the suspects should only be released on bail if their cases have been prosecuted, investigated and concluded.

She has made the request at the grand closure of the Joint TB/HIV Global Fund Programme which ActionAid was managing for the last three years.

Dr. Kaliati said when perpetrators of rape and defilement are given bail before cases are concluded, they continue to terrorize lives of innocent girls and women.
