Seeing an elderly person, most people would think the person has completely forgotten about school.
But for Zambian granny Maureen Ngoma, it has become the start of a new phase for her in education.
Ngoma aged 62 years and a mother of nine recently joined the Seenga Lumbwe Basic School in Lusaka under adult literacy as a Grade 8 (Standard 8) learner.
“I want to work in a big office and give my service to help people when I finish school,” she said.
According to The Times of Zambia, Ngoma aspires to join the Zambia Army or join politics and vie for Lusaka Central Parliamentary seats once she is done with her studies.
Ngoma added that independent women who work in respectable offices inspire her while bemoaning minimal formal education which she stressed stood in her way of being like them.
Meanwhile, this is the reason she decided to go back to where she went off-track and pick up the pieces.
Maureen’s education journey came to a halt 45 years ago when she dropped out of school, aged 17, to be married.
