Police in Machinga have arrested 3 bus drivers on suspicion that they were involved in ferrying bags of marijuana, locally known as Chamba.
The 3, Dayton Kalimbuka, 24, Brave Phiri, 27, and Alick Mposa were arrested on Friday, 2 April on the Mzuzu-Blantyre via Zomba route.
Officers who were manning a roadblock at Machinga arrested the 3– who work for City Tours Bus Service, after they failed to identify the owners of 7 plastic bags and 2 laptop bags containing the loose herb.
Meanwhile, Eastern Region Deputy Police Spokesperson Tionge Kayenda has confirmed the arrest saying the cannabis has been taken to Bvumbwe research station for tests.
