Health workers at Mphunzi Health Centre in Dedza they are struggling to assist expectant women about to deliver at night and even to save new born babies in need of oxygen.

Meanwhile the facility has been operating without electricity for three months now.

This is after an ESCOM transformer got burst.

Meanwhile Chairperson of the Health Advisory Committee Manyozo Moyo said that the workers are forced to use light from mobile phones to assist women deliver at night or to operate on serious wounds.

He added that the health Centre being near Mphunzi Mountain also sees hyenas loiter around hospital premises at night which leaves the health personnel prone to attacks as it sometimes goes to the maternity ward at night on foot from their houses to attend to patients.

Meanwhile ESCOM Spokesperson Innocent Chitosi asked for more time before commenting on the matter.
