Minister of forestry and Natural Resource Nancy Tembo has today Launched a voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small Scale Fisheries (SSF Guidelines).
Speaking at the launch of Guidelines today in Salima, Tembo said the aim of the program is to promote women participation in the industry for improved livelihood.
‘’ The fisheries sector in Malawi contributes significantly to food and nutritional security and economic growth of the rural population hence needs attention,’’ said Tembo.
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) deputy country representative James Okoth has since pledged his organization’s commitment towards the implementation of the guidelines for a thriving fisheries industry which is neglected.
