The Magistrate Court in Mzuzu has thrown out an application by defence lawyers asking the court to dismiss the violence case involving former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Regional Governor for the north Christopher Mzomera Ngwira and six others.

Defence lawyer Christon Ghambi applied for the case to be discharged following failure by the state to bring to court their final witness, a police investigator who is currently on interdiction.

Ngwira is accused of hiring thugs who disrupted a rally organized by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, then leader of opposition in Mzuzu.

The thugs hacked Chakwera’s bodyguards and several people got injured during the fracas.

Mzomera Ngwira is currently serving a jail sentence at Mzimba Prison for embezzling CDF fund when he was a Member of Parliament for Mzimba Hora constituency then.
