Phillip was born from the Greek and Danish royal families, he joined the British Royal Navy in 1938 at the age of 18 after being educated in France, Germany and the United kingdom.

King George granted him the styles of His Royal Highness and created Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich for Phillip, but in 1957 he was made a British prince.
