President Lazarus Chakwera has sent a strong warning to civil servants and all individuals who are involved in the embezzlement of the infamous K6.2 billion Covid-19 funds.
Speaking in vernacular, Chakwera clearly said “mubwenza” (you will give it back) during his address to the nation last night.
The president further added that the police are yet to make more arrests as some have already been arrested including one senior officer under the Office of the President and Cabinet.
Chakwera further ordered that all companies participating in defrauding the country through the Covid-19 procurements must be debarred from getting government contracts.
As a way of ensuring that those abused the funds face justice, Chakwera said he has also directed the Ministry of Justice to engage the Chief Justice to ensure speedy prosecution of those that have been arrested.
“I would like to assure you that there is no place on earth where these criminals will hide,” stressed Chakwera.
He therefore prayed for the wrath and curse of God to rest on those that been implicated in the mismanagement of the Covid-19 funds.
Chakwera added that he has decided to use independent audit agencies to ensure that the audits have evidence that can stand in court.
He therefore thanked Malawians who he described as active Citizenry and vigilant press for pushing for accountability of the Covid-19 funds.
