The board for the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) is this Friday expected to meet to approve the results of the interviews for the post of director-general and director of news, MBC board Chairperson, Rev. Vasco Kachipapa has confirmed.

Interviews were conducted a few weeks ago.

The meeting is expected to approve candidates for the two positions which are key in the running of the public broadcaster which, for a long time, has faced criticism of being biased towards the ruling party.

“It is true we did the interviews but the results are yet to be presented to the board for approval. The Board will meet on Friday. Thanks,” said Kachipapa.

This also dispels rumors that have been circulating on social media fronting some people as successful candidates for the position of director-general.

Some of the names that have been making rounds include Times Group Editor-in-Chief George Kasakula, Journalism lecturer Jolly Ntaba, and director of media services at the Electoral Commission Sangwani Mwafulirwa and Chairperson for Media Council of Malawi Wisdom Chimgwede.
