Former Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) director general (DG) Aubrey Sumbuleta, has been charged with six counts bordering on sexual harassment and abuse of office.
Sumbuleta who was arrested for alleged sexual assault on Saturday, April 17, appeared before the Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Court on Wednesday, April 21, to be formally charged.
State prosecutor Cecelia Zangaza asked the court to commit the matter to the High Court.
According to the reports released by the Malawi Human Right (MHRC) women’s chapter into alleged reports of sexual harassment, Sumbuleta is reported to have abused his office while working as deputy director of information in 2010 as well as during his time at MBC as Director-General
Meanwhile, Chief Resident Magistrate Patrick Chirwa has committed the matter to the High Court.
