Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima is this afternoon expected to visit a washed away Kyungu bridge at lponga in Karonga.

Dr. Chilima is in the north touring progress of some developmental projects underway in the region.

According to the VP’s spokesperson Pilirani Phiri, the Vice President who is currently in Nkhata Bay will put on hold some of the engagements to appreciate the situation in Karonga.

The bridge which is located  5Km away as we are coming from Songwe Border to Karonga Boma has been washed away by running water in the early hours of Thursday, April 22.

The development has however rendered people using the M1 road to or from Songwe Border in the district destitute.

The past week the Northern part of Malawi has been receiving heavy rains causing many rivers such as the Rukuru river to flood.

The Police in Northern Region have since appealed to road users operating in this route to be extra cautious when using the road.
