Reverend Nick Chakwera, son of the country’s President has dragged to court Joshua Chisa Mbele, for defamation over posts he made on Facebook.
Mbele is allegedly to have claimed that Martin Mainja one of the suspects in the abuse of Covid-19 funds is a business partner of Chakwera.
Mainja owns Pest Chem 1B which was handpicked and awarded a K97 million contract by the Office of the President and Cabinet, according to a National Audit Office report.
He also alleged that Mainja and Chakwera were irregularly awarded business opportunities by the Office of the President, Cabinet Parliament, Chancellor College, Malawi Prison and Ministry of Health.
Mbele also alleged that the two were not fairly paid for their work but they were stealing.
Chakwera through his lawyer Panji Chirwa is seeking award of aggravated compensatory damages, a retraction of the publication, a public apology and costs of the case.
Meanwhile, the court has told Mbele to file his defense within 28 days, if he intends to contest the claim.
