Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda has argued the newly sworn parliamentarians to stand up and defend the laws of the people in their various constituencies.
Justice Nyirenda made the remarks on Friday, April 23, while presiding over the swearing-in ceremony of seven newly elected parliamentarians.
“It must be emphasized at the onset that as legislators your main function is to enact laws,” said Justice Nyirenda.
The development however follows the by-elections held on March 30 2021 in some parts of the country.
Concurring with Justice Nyirenda, Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Nsinja South Constituency, who is a son to late Lingson Belekanyama, said he is ready to contribute to the development of his constituency in the August house.
Among the MPs that were sworn in are Rodrik Khumbanyiwa representing Chikwawa East under UDF, Kafandikhale Mandevana Nsanje Central under MCP,) Bizwick Milion Zomba Changalume ,(UTM) Arnold Kadzanja Ntchisi North (MCP) Enoch Chizuzu Nsanje North (MCP) and Felix Kayira.
