The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has said they have arrested three more people believed to have abused funds aimed at the fight against the global pandemic Coronavirus.

Malawi Police spokesperson James Kadadzera confirmed in a statement made available to Face of Malawi.

“The Malawi Police Service (MPS) wishes to inform Malawians that three more suspects were arrested on April 26, 2021 in connection to the plunder of Covid-19 funds,” said Kadadzera.

Kadadzera identified the suspects as Elizabeth Mbeye, nee Sofasi, Senior Procurement Officer, Blantyre District Council; Henderson Sofasi, Brites Trading, Blantyre and Robert Mdoka, Niya Trading, Limbe.

According to Kadadzera, this brings the total number of the arrested to 64.

He further added that the suspects will answer charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, Making a false document and Contravening public procurement and disposal of assets Act.

He then assured the general public that MPS detectives are still on the ground and more arrests will follow.
