Police in Zomba district have arrested an 18-year-old woman on suspicion that she kidnapped a three-week-old baby girl in the district, Zomba Police Station spokesperson Patricia Sipiliano has confirmed.

Sipiliano has identified the suspect as Alimba Wyson.

According to Sipiliano the accused tricked the baby’s mother that she was a niece to village headwoman Chisupe after meeting at a trading center.

“The two went to the mother’s house where the suspect stole the baby,” Spiliano explained.

The matter was reported to police whose investigations led to the arrest of Wyson who hails from Tangaleya Village, Traditional Authority Kuntumanje in Zomba district.

Police have since hailed the public for the collaborative efforts which led to the recovery of the baby.
