A man has been arrested for stealing two excavana chainsaws, and two jerry cans of 20 litres of fuel at AKL Timbers Company situated at Luwawa in Mzimba.
According to Mzimba Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sub-Inspector John Nyirongo, on the night of 17th April, 2021, the suspect who is identified as Musaope Chunga, in a company of 9 criminals attacked the company and stole the said items in addition to robbing security guards at the scene 2 cell phones.
Subsequently, the police carried out a raid in the wee hours of April 30, 2021 at Mapayi village and managed to arrest the suspect.
However, in retaliation unknown community members organised themselves, blocked the road and started to shoot at police officers with antique rifles.
In the process, a police land cruiser vehicle registration number MP2546 was shot on the passenger’s door. But neither a police officer nor a civilian was injured.
Meanwhile, investigations are still under way to arrest the remaining suspects who are still at large. The value of the property is K1. 5 million.
The suspect will appear before court to answer charge of robbery contrary to section 301 of the penal code.
Musaope, 45, hails from Mapayi Village under the Traditional Authority (T/A) Mzikubola in the district.
