India – A 24-year-old youth from Gujarat’s Mahisagar district has been arrested for allegedly harassing a 22-year-old girl by creating multiple fake profiles in her name Instagram, a popular social media platform.
As per reports, the accused, identified as Virsinh Damor, and the affected girl (name withheld) were in a relationship. They later broke up and the girl got engaged to another man. Damor has been allegedly harassing her for the last five months. He allegedly abused her over the phone and sent her obscene photos. He also sent abusive texts to her family members. Fed up with the constant harassment, the girl, a few days ago, lodged a police complaint against Damor, following which he was arrested.
“Damor, 24, a college dropout and resident of Santrampur taluka, also made fake Instagram accounts in the name of the complainant and even uploaded her photos on it. He later sent a friend request to the complainant’s friend through the fake Instagram accounts. Accused also sent abusive messages to the complainant’s fiancé,” a report published by The Times of Indiastated.
A police officer said that the accused had created the complainant’s fake Instagram profiles as he wanted to break off her engagement. The complainant, however, was not aware that her fake profiles were created by him, the officer added.
In a similar incident, a 26-year-old man, who worked as a lab technician in Surat city, allegedly made a social media profile in the name of his former girlfriend and then used it to share her morphed pictures. The police arrested him following a complaint by the victim.
According to the police, the accused was in a relationship with the woman for around five years. Later, the woman decided to end their relationship but he was keen to continue with it. After she snapped ties with him, he decided to defame her by creating her fake social media profile, the official added.
