Residents of Botanic and Zolozolo townships in Mzuzu have petitioned the Ministry of Finance over funds for Luwinga-Mzuzu Government bypass road construction works.

According to the group, only two kilometers (km) of the 10.4 km stretch has been completed, two years after construction works started.

The development has cast doubt on whether the project will meet its deadline this year forcing the residents to petition the Ministry.

The group has however indicated that the road is almost impassable especially during the rainy season.

The residents have since threatened to stop paying ground rates to Mzuzu City Council if the council will not push for the completion of the road.

The project is part of the City Roads Development Project financed by the Roads Fund Administration (RFA).
