President Lazarus Chakwera has commended the Catholic Church for the role it plays in developing the country.
Speaking on Sunday when he attended the prayers at St Peter’s Cathedral in Mzuzu, Chakwera said the church has contributed to the country’s development in different areas such as health and education among others.
The President then assured churches in the country that government will continue working in collaboration with them to ensure continued development.
Chakwera also applauded the faith community for preaching love and unity thereby enhancing peace in the country. And he recognised the church in the country for being an organ that plays an advisory role to various duty bearers.
Chakwera then donated K1 million to the church which Bishop Ryan said would be used to assist the school of the blind in Nkhata Bay and St Magdalena in Rumphi which is a school for learners with disabilities
