A 44-year old man in Phalombe has been convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of K75, 000 or in default serve 15 month imprisonment with hard labour for buying farm produce without a licence.
Phalombe First Grade Magistrate’s Court, through State prosecutor Sub Inspector Shadrick Wisiki heard that the convict, Maurice Kalambalika was intercepted at Miseufolo roundabout on May 24, 2021 while transporting 17 bags of rice to Blantyre.
Passing the sentence, First Grade Magistrate Damson Banda concurred with the state’s submission and sentenced the offender to pay a fine of K75, 000.00 and the 17 bags being forfeited to Malawi Government while the vehicle which was used to carry the goods has been returned to the owner.
