Malawians have taken to social media expressing their dissatisfaction with the decision by Public Appointment Committee of Parliament to reject ‘lady of the people’ Martha Chizuma as Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Ombudsman Chizuma, appeared before PAC of Parliament for interviews following her appointment by President Lazarus Chakwera as Director General of the graft busting body.
However, PAC had something in mind contrary to the expectations of the general public as she has been turned down.
The development has not been welcomed by the populace who are expressing disappointment and disapproval of PAC’s decision and questioning the credibility and integrity of the Committee.
According to some social media users Chizuma’s rejection as ACB director is politics as most of the politicians feel she is a thorn in the flesh.
Reacting to the development National Coordinator of Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Luke Tembo said Malawians believe Chizuma is fit for the position but PAC’s decision is coming out of selfish reasons.
He further said that what PAC has done is provoking the wrath of Malawians.
One media personality Chikondi Mmanga Kasambara poses a question on how bad Chizuma was to get 1 out of 25 and how best she was to be awarded 25 out of 25?
“Let’s look at the issue with sober minds. How bad was she to get 1/25 honestly? Then how good was she to get 25/25? Two extreme results interview imodzi yomweyo? The entire interview was a sham, komitiyo incompetent. It was just a battle field between political opponents kuonetsana wamkulu nganga,” said Chikondi Mmanga Kasambara.
Another media personnel Bartholomew Kawina Boaz asks; “So, in their wisdom, some members of the Public Appointments Committee (PAC), found firebrand Martha Chizuma not fit for the ACB job?”
Human rights activist Makhumbo Munthali retaliated that what has happened today should never be allowed in this country.
Not only human activists and media personnel have expressed their concerns over the rejection of Chizuma to head ACB, Pastor Zacc Kawalala has also jumped in saying he is praying for Malawi regarding the recent development.
“Is it asking too much to say that The Public Appointment Committee of Parliament must FALL? Praying for Malawi,” Pastor Kawalala said.
Meanwhile, HRDC has announced to hold demonstrations on May 18, 2021 dubbed Bring Back Our Martha to force PAC rescind their decision by approving Chizuma as the new ACB boss.
