Around 6:45 AM Friday, April 7, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Deputies in the United States (USA) were called to the Pines at Warrington apartment complex due to a shooting.

Once on scene, deputies found a two-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound.

The toddler was rushed to a local hospital where he pronounced deceased.

He was identified as Sebastian Carlton Mooney.

Quentin White, the boyfriend of the mother to the young victim, was ‘showing his gun to the mother’ when it went off, officials said. White fled the scene.

Deputies tracked him down and with the assistance of the Pensacola Police Department, he was arrested and charged with manslaughter, possession or use of a firearm during a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

“This is senseless, tragic, and heartbreaking,” said Sheriff Chip W. Simmons.

“Carelessness on this level is criminal. The family of this innocent child will live with this forever. We as a community mourn the loss of this child and condemn the carelessness responsible for this catastrophic event,” added Simmons.

“The victim’s mother asked him to put the gun away because she was not comfortable with that weapon, and while he was putting that gun away, according to the reports, a single shot went off and it struck the 2-year-old,” Simmons added.

“The community mourns this loss of a 2-year-old who never had the opportunity to grow up, never had the opportunity to ride a bike, to go to school, to go on a date, to prove that they could be a productive part of our community and all because of the carelessness of an individual who wasn’t even supposed to have a gun.”
