Muslims in Mangochi District have today held Eid Mubarak Prayers marking the end of the Holy month of Ramadan.

The development comes despite the Muslim Association of Malawi (Mam) indicating that Eid prayers will be held tomorrow, April 14 upon the likely sighting of the Moon today.

However, the Muslims in Mangochi have since disclosed that they have broken the fast because the Quran mandated 30 days of fasting, which is over according to the Ramadan Calendar.

Chairperson of the group celebrating today, Sheikh Abubarkar Labson, who is also Chairperson for Ulama Council of Malawi in Mangochi, says the moon has been sighted in other areas.

Meanwhile, Chairperson for MAM in Mangochi, Sheikh Fahad Kamsuli, says they follow local time where the moon has not been sighted and they will conduct the prayers tomorrow.
