Expectant mothers around Chankhungu Health Centre in Dowa have expressed worry with long distance they are covering to access maternity services at Dowa District Hospital.
This is after a maternity wing at the health Centre was closed two months ago after a placenta pit collapsed.
The expectant mothers have since complained that due to long distances, of up to 23 Kilometers, they are giving birth to still born babies while others are giving birth while in transit to the district hospital.
Chankhungu Health Centre officer In-charge Lester Mnyenyembe has confirmed the development.
Mnyenyembe also added that the hospital toilets they were using are also full and has since urged well-wishers to help in fixing the problem.
