A 23-year-old youth was allegedly knifed to death by his 27-year-old brother, reportedly after their mother rejected the former’s request for money and he picked up an argument with her over the issue. The incident took place at the family’s house in Saramedu area in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu on Friday.
According to an investigation officer, on the auspicious occasion of Eid ul Fitr on Friday, the victim, identified as Thoufiq, asked his mother to give him money. When she refused, he allegedly began fighting with her. Thoufiq’s elder brother Zaheer Hussain intervened to stop the fight.
“Zaheer intervened and advised Thoufiq not to fight with the mother for money and asked him to find a job. At one point, Zaheer lost his temper and grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Thoufiq in the abdomen and chest,” a report by The Times of India quoted the investigating officer as saying.
After the incident, Zaheer fled from the house while an injured Thoufiq was dashed to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for treatment. On Saturday, he succumbed to stab injuries at the hospital. Reportedly, he didn’t respond to treatment. The police later managed to arrest Zaheer. He has been charged with murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
