The body of a Jamaican-born woman was found in East Hartford, Connecticut in the United States on Friday, more than a week after she went missing.
Jessica Edwards-Hutchinson, a 30-year-old resident of South Windsor in Connecticut, went missing on Monday, May 10.
She reportedly has family members residing in Portland, Jamaica, as well as in the United States, according to media reports.
Since her disappearance, Edwards-Hutchinson’s family members, along with her husband in the United States, had launched a social media campaign in the hope of locating the mother of a seven-month-old boy.
However, their hopes were dashed after Edwards-Hutchinson’s family were called to the scene at a wooded area at Driver Road and Chipper Drive in East Hartford, where the body was found.
A sister of the missing woman had spoken to police officers at the scene, following which she reportedly knelt to the ground in grief, multiple news outlets reported.
Other family members arrived at the scene, but left shortly after.
Speaking at a press conference late on Friday, South Windsor police spokesman, Sergeant Mark Cleverdon, said the remains were found in the woods, adding that it was found “significantly decomposed”.
A caused of death is to be received from the results of an autopsy.
It was reported that Edwards-Hutchinson was last seen about 7am on Monday, May 10.
She had earlier informed her professor that she would not be in attendance at her clinical training class in respiratory care at Hartford Hospital.
Instead, she left her home in South Windsor with an unknown person in a car.
But Cleverdon said police investigators did not believe that story, which was given to them by the missing woman’s husband, Tahj Hutchinson.
Cleverdon, however, did not provide a reason for his claim, media outlets reported.
Hutchinson also stated that he last saw his wife between 6:30 am and 7am on May 10. He reported her missing later that day.
Cleverdon did not name a person of interest, or whether Hutchison was a suspect, or was to be questioned, adding that details of the autopsy will be vital to determine how the case progresses.
