The funeral ceremony for late Traditional Authority Nyezelera of Phalombe took place today in the district.

People from all walks of life thronged to Nyezelera headquarters to escort the fallen traditional leader.

Speaking during the ceremony, leader of the Opposition in Parliament who is also DPP Veep for the southern region Kondwani Nankhumwa MP, re-iterated the need for Malawians to remain united for the betterment of the country.

“T/A Nyezelera has left a very good legacy. Most of us will remember him as someone who always wanted to see peace prevailing among his subjects and Malawi in general” said Nankhumwa.

He then challenged the Mulhakho wa Alhomwe board, whose chairperson, Leston Mulli was in attendance, to practice what they preach on the issue of unity.

“It is worrisome to some of us to see board members contradicting yourselves publicly on critical issues” he said this in reference to the recent appointment of Senior Chief Kaduya as acting Paramount Chief.

Others who spoke at the ceremony include Deputy Minister of Local Government Halima Daudi who represented President Lazarus Chakwera and Member of Parliament for Phalombe Central Constituency Million Katunga.

Born Harold Samson Napawe, T/A Nyezelera died on Sunday this week. He was 61. He is survived by a wife, thirteen children and thirteen grandchildren.
