The Malawi Government has reinstated District Commissioners (DC) who were sanctioned over the plunder of Covid 19 response funds.
The DCs were interdicted in February this year, to pave way for an audit following the looting of K6.2-billion Covid response funds.
Those interdicted were 35 controlling officers who included 27 DCs, 7 Chief Executive Officers for City Councils, 2 Municipalities, and 1 Town Council.
Meanwhile, the DC have since been called back to duty with immediate effect.
During this period, those interdicted were barred from leaving the country without seeking permission from their office.
Confirming the development, Government Spokesperson Gospel Kazako acknowledged that the implicated controlling officers will face the law while some will be given a warning.
