The UNC Project-Malawi is calling on the government to put in place a deliberate plan to increase funding to cancer care in the country.

This comes against a growing need for specialized cancer care by the public.

The increased demand is being attributed to late detection of the disease.

Mostly, cancer is diagnosed at advanced stages and is therefore not responsive to treatment.

A  pathologist and UNC Project-Malawi Cancer Programme Co-director Tamiwe Tomoka  disclosed this yesterday.

Tomoka said that adequate funding can help bring efficiency and urgency in treatment of patients.
