Wife to the country’s Vice President, Mary Chilima, has joined various gender and girl child rights advocates in Zomba, in a panel discussion on gender based violence.

The discussion which was done on Thursday at the University of Malawi is focusing on breaking the silence against GBV.

Madame Chilima said incidences of girl abuse are reaching alarming levels.

Other notable faces at the event include Minister of Gender Patricia Kaliati, renowned gender advocate Emma Kaliya, Phoebe Kasonga Who is Plan International Malawi Country Director.

This has moved the minister of gender and social welfare to direct presence of social workers at university while urging the police to arrest lecturers and students involved in sexual and gender violence.
