Police in Chileka are keeping in custody a 26- year-old woman, Silivelia Chisenga, for burning the legs of her 6-year-old son for eating 4 eggs that were prepared as a relish.

According to Jonathan Phillipo, Deputy publicist for Chileka Police Station, the victim was left alone by the mother as she went to attend the church service.

On her return, she realized that four eggs that were prepared for relish were eaten up.

Police said she suspected her son to have eaten the relish and immediately tied him up to a tree and set some fire just under the victim’s legs to burn him. The boy was severely burn t in between his legs.

Some well-wishers reported the matter to Police.

A team of policewoman working under the annual Policewomen operation called Basadi rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect and levelled against her an offence of an act intended to cause grievous harm which is contrary to Section 235 (A) of the Penal code.

The victim was also referred to Chileka Health Centre for treatment.

The suspect will appear before court shortly when police is done with its investigations.

Chisenga comes from Thanganyika Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kuntaja in Blantyre District.

Meanwhile, Chileka Police Station is warning the public against subjecting vulnerable groups to torture and that the law will take its course on any perpetrator.
