A 29-YEAR-OLD security guard who killed a guest at a Chipinge lodge has been slapped with a 26 year jail term after being convicted of murder.
Tinashe Mtisi, who was employed as a security guard at Caravan Lodge in Chipinge, was found guilty of killing Kudakwashe Msindo in 2019 following a botched robbery attempt.
Mtisi appeared before Mutare High Court Judge, Justice Hlekani Mwayera, facing murder chargers.
The State proved that on December 29, 2019, Msindo and his girlfriend, Natalie Ann Freeman, checked in at Caravan Park Lodge for the night.
At around midnight, Mtisi entered into the two’s room through a window with the intention of stealing from them.
However, Msindo woke up and confronted Mtisi. A fight ensued between the two.
During the scuffle, Msindo lost balance and fell to the ground. Mtisi took the chance to strangle Msindo. He left him on the ground before escaping through the window, leaving behind his torn T-shirt.
Msindo started complaining of dizziness. He called the owner of the lodge and told him what had happened. The owner of the lodge came and assisted Freeman to move Msindo outside. They tried to render first aid.
Msindo’s conditions further deteriorated and he was rushed to Chipinge District Hospital where he died upon admission.
A police report was made, thereby leading to Mtisi’s arrest. Freeman managed to identify him as the intruder Manica Post reports.
