A couple in Zambia’s district of Kalumbila has been shot resulting in the death of the husband and wounding the wife over allegations of practising witchcraft.

Police  spokesperson Esther Katongo  said in a statement that that the victims who have been identified as Royd Katontoka aged 67 and  Mary Katontoka 52  were shot using an unknown type of firearm  by two identified assailants whose identities we have withheld.

“Police in North western Province are looking for two identified suspects  in connection with murder and attempted murder involving a couple which occurred on 28th May, 2021  around 1830 hours at Kinema  Village in Chief Musele of Kalumbila District,” she said.

Mrs Katongo said Mr Katontoka sustained  gunshot wounds on the belly and on his back while the wife sustained four deep wounds on her left leg.

She said when police who visited the scene found they found Mr Katontoka in unconscious state  while his wife was found with four bullets wounds on her left  leg.

“Both victims were rushed to Kankozhi Clinic where Mr Katontoka was pronounced dead and his wife was reffered to Lumwana Hospital. Dockets of Murder and Attempted Murder have been opened. A manhunt has been launched,” Mrs Katongo.
