One of the county’s beer brewing companies Castel Malawi Limited has issued a statement referring to the claims circulating in social media regarding a purported tax evasion.
In a statement, Castel Malawi says as a company they strongly dispute and condemn this information saying it is false and it has been done only for the purpose of tarnishing the image and reputation of the company.
“Castel Malawi Limited has no history of default and honors all its tax obligations to the authority when they fall due.
All taxes (including VAT and Excise) collected by Castel Malawi Limited and its subsidiaries upon sale of products to its customers are declared and paid in full in its accordance with local tax regulations” reads the statement.
The company has further highlighted that it is one of the biggest taxpayers in Malawi and significantly contributes to the development of the country by paying more than MK20 Billion per year despite that it has not been making profits.
Few days ago, people in social media were accusing Castel Malawi Limited for not being active enough in paying tax despite making a lot of profits from its products sale.
