The Malawi Electeral Commission (MEC) says it is waiting for a legal advise from the Attorney General Chikosa Silungwe on the implications of the nullification of appointment of four of its commissioners.

The High Court on Wednesday nullified the appointment of four Democratic Progressive Party ( DPP) commissioners following an application from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

The nullification has come as preparations for the June 29 by elections were at an advanced stage.

And in reaction, MEC Public Relations Director Sangwani Mwafulirwa says future conduct of planed activities will depend on the advise from the AG considering that the electoral body was not party to the case proceedings.

Effort to talk to Sulungwe proved futile.
