A man in Kanpur was allegedly crushed under a four-wheeler after he stopped a group of men from urinating in public. The incident took place on Friday night when the accused made an attempt of relieving themselves in front of the shop where the victim worked as a mechanic.
Allegedly, the accused were under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place. The deceased was identified as Ashraf. A resident of Fahimabad colony, Chamanganj, Ashraf used to work as a mechanic at a battery shop in Naubasta.
At around 11.30 pm on Friday, Ashraf was working at the shop when he saw two-three men step out from a parked Hyundai Creta. Reportedly, the man had been consuming alcohol inside the four-wheeler. Ashraf tried to stop the men from urinating in front of the shop.
The accused allegedly threatened Ashraf when he stopped them, prompting him to call his employer Anurag Kapoor. Meanwhile, an unidentified witness saw the incident and apprised the cops. By the time a police team reached the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) market near the Yashoda Nagar Bypass, the accused had run over Ashraf with their four-wheeler, The Times of India reported.
Kapoor reached the spot soon after Ashraf called him and learned that the latter was rushed to the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital where he breathed his last.
Police scanned the CCTV footage of the area after Ashraf’s death and zeroed in on a man identified as Imran. Allegedly, Imran started an argument with Ashraf. Additional deputy commissioner of police (Kanpur South) Basant Lal said, “There were two others with him, one of whom has been identified as Ramji. ” A case of murder was registered against the accused.
