The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has resubmitted to President Lazarus Chakwera the name of Richard Chapweteka to be appointed as Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Commissioner.

This follows the High Court Judgment that ordered the party to do so within 7 days.

High Court Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda last week ordered that Chapweteka’s name be resubmitted after he was rejected by the former President Peter Mutharika.

Chapweteka was among the names that were nominated by MCP then but failed to make it to the Commission after Mutharika appointed two instead of three Commissioners on the MCP part.

Maurice Munthali, MCP publicity secretary confirmed that the party has resubmitted the name to the President yesterday.

Munthali said, MCP follows the rule of law and has done as it was ordered by the court.

Efforts to hear from DPP which was also ordered to nominate and submit 3 commissioners proved futile as its spokesperson Brown Mpinganjira’s phone went unanswered.
