A Blantyre-based Plastic manufacturing company, Aero Plastics Limited has been fined K5 million and its premises have been immediately closed by the Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) for producing thin plastics.
Director-General of MEPA Tawonga Mbale-Luka has confirmed the development.
According to Mbale-Luka, the development follows the prohibition of the production of plastics below 60 microns under Section 116 of the Environmental Management Act of 2019.
Meanwhile, the Company’s management declined to comment on the development.
