Nigeria’s Attorney General Abubakar Malami has come under from Nigerians after he used Virtual Private Network (VPN) to deactivate his twitter account.

Nigeria banned Twitter on Friday after it took down President Buhari’s Tweet for what they said it violated its rules.

Following the move by Twitter, Public Broadcaster of Nigeria ordered that all media houses should deactivate their Twitter accounts.

However, most Nigerians are using VPN to access Twitter as the site shows that one is accessing internet from another country.

Mr. Malani shared a screenshot on his Facebook page showing that he had deactivated his Twitter account a development which attracted questions from Nigerians on how he did it.

Earlier, the Attorney General had threatened to prosecute Nigerians using VPN to access Twitter.

Social media users questioned how he accessed Twitter, without using VPN asking that he prosecutes himself as well.

“This is evidence that you logged into Twitter today via VPN to deactivate your account, which is punishable under your unlawful law. Let us see how you will prosecute others without throwing yourself in jail,” Roy Ekwueme commented.

The president’s wife, Aisha Buhari, has also deactivated her Twitter account.

Meanwhile, former president of the United States of America Donald Trump hailed Nigeria for banning Twitter.
