A prominent Tunisian businessman and politician has been hospitalised three days after he began a hunger-strike in protest at his continued detention.

Nabil Karoui owns several media companies, and is a founder of Tunisia’s second biggest political party Qalb Tounes.

He says he should have been freed last month when a maximum, six-month period of pre-trial detention expired.

Mr Karoui is facing charges of money laundering and tax evasion.
