The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Malawi is reiterating calls for the government to tread carefully on the relocation of refugees and asylum seekers to Dzaleka camp.

While admitting that the government will be implementing the relocation within its mandate, country representative for UNHCR Kouame Modeste, insists that the relocation should be treated with a human face.

He observes that the camp is already keeping refugees and asylum seekers beyond its holding capacity which could be detrimental to the spread of covid19.

Dzaleka Camp is currently keeping over 50 thousand refugees and asylum seekers against its holding capacity of 10 thousand.
