This year’s Sand Music Festival has been slated for early 1st to the 3rd October, 2021 as a way of taking affirmative action against unfavourable weather conditions which usually affect the festival.
Speaking to the media in Blantyre Lead Consultant of Impact Events who is among the organizers of the festival, Nkhwachi Mhango, said the festival has been shifted from October end or early November, to ensure the activity is not affected by the onset of the rains as has been the case in preceding years.
Among the changes include the festival’s venue which traditionally has been Sunbird Livingstonia Beach but this time around the annual event will be hosted at Sunbird Nkopola because of renovations taking place at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach.
“After long consultations, the management has decided to move the festival to early October which is the peak of the Summer season. We, therefore, took affirmative action over problems like sandstorms and heavy rains that affect the experience of the festival,” said Mhango.
Mhango further said preparations for the festival are going well and in the next two weeks they would announce exciting new initiatives for this year.
“The initiatives to be announced in a few weeks include ticket pricing and artists to perform. We are in negotiations with international and local artists who are going to perform at the festival,” added Mhango.
According to Impact Events during the festival, all COVID-19 prevention guidelines will be observed.
