A Chinese national Lin Yun Hua has been indicted by the Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Court in wildlife crimes relating to 103 pieces of rhino horns.
Yun Hua was arrested in 2019 and was charged with possession of listed species without a permit, dealing in government trophies, conspiracy to commit a felony, and money laundering.
Presiding over the ruling, Justice Violet Chipao, found Lin guilty of dealing in pieces of rhino horns that he already pleaded guilty of possessing.
Chipao also found guilty Yun Hua of money laundering which relates to dealings with proceeds of crime.
Meanwhile, the accused counterpart identified as Jimmy Mkwezalamba has been acquitted for charges relating to dealing in pieces of rhino horns.
The two were arrested in 2019 and Lin is believed to be a kingpin of an international gang that deals in the wildlife trade.
