President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has said his government would lay out some measures to ensure that the country produces quality agricultural produce for export.
He made the remarks on Sunday afternoon upon arrival in Mangochi where he was welcomed by thousands of people, among them, chiefs.
Chakwera said farmers in the country do not realize enough money from their agricultural produce due to rushed sales which, according to the President, compromise quality.
“The problem is that because everyone is free to buy or sell crop produce in the country, most produce are bought before they mature; as a result, most of the produce rot in storage, failing short of meeting export standards,” he noted.
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Deputy Secretary General, Gerald Kazembe assured people in Mangochi that Chakwera’s leadership has the infrastructural development of Mangochi at heart.
On Wednesday, the Malawi leader will attend the commemoration of the Day of African Child at Sun n Sand Holiday Resort in Mangochi, where he would launch Early Childhood Advocacy Campaign.
