Senior Resident Magistrate court sitting in Limbe on Friday, June 11, 2021, sentenced two men each to 5 years imprisonment for breaking into a bottle store and stole items worth over K1 million.
Sub Inspector Steven Mpira, a prosecutor based at Limbe Police Station, told the court that the two; White Loko, 32, and Lucius Harrison, 23, committed the offence on the night of December, 12, 2020 in Limbe.
“They entered into a bottle store belonging to Mr Matabwa and stole therein, a laptop, two lock sonic speakers, assorted beer, fridge guard, electrical extension cord, and two grosses of tobacco, all to the total value of K1,100,000,” Sub Inspector Mpira said.
They were later apprehended and charged with breaking into a building and committing a felony therein contrary to Section 311(1) of the Penal code.
Appearing in court, they pleaded not guilty to the charge, prompting the state to parade four witnesses who testified against them, and were later found guilty.
They both pleaded with the court for leniency, saying they were breadwinners in their families.
Passing his judgment, Senior Resident Magistrate Byson Masonga concurred with the state. He therefore sentenced the two to 5 years imprisonment with hard labor.
White Loko hails from Mlonda village in Traditional Authority Nsabwe while Lucius Harrison comes from Mphera village in the area of Traditional Authority Mphuka, both from Thyolo district.
